The standard equation of a parabola with horizontal axis and vertex at the origin is

y² = 4px, where the focal length is p, the focus at (p,0) and the directrix x = -p.

For y² = 18x we have 4p = 18, p=9/2.  The focus is at (9/2,0) the directrix x = -9/2
