trying to figure out how much is an amount times 15.3% payroll tax if the total is 12.00

7.84 times 15.3% is 1.19 and then the wage becomes 784 plus 1.19 or 9.03. what the heck am i not seeing.

if you work it backwards you will get a decimal. because n is multiplied by 15.3% then you would divide the answer by 15.3% instead. in order to divide a percent you have to move the decimal two places left (.153) so n = 12.00 ÷ .153. plug it into a calculator for the long decimal answer. if multiple choice then round it to the closest answer, most cut of at tenths or hundredths place. 15.3% of n is 0.153n. So you have
0.153n = 12.00
n = 12.00/0.153 ≅ 78.43
Convert 15.3% to 0.153.
Now, we have 0.153n = 12
n = 12/0.153
n = 78.43
Since we are talking about payroll tax, I assume the amount is in dollars, so the answer is $78.43
