trying to figure out how much is an amount times 15.3% payroll tax if the total is 12.00

 

The rate of pay is 12.00 including the 15.3 payroll tax. what is the hourly wage rate? if i use 7.84 then 

7.84 times 15.3% is 1.19 and then the wage becomes 784 plus 1.19 or 9.03.  what the heck am i not seeing.

if you work it backwards you will get a decimal. because n is multiplied by 15.3% then you would divide the answer by 15.3% instead. in order to divide a percent you have to move the decimal two places left (.153) so n = 12.00 ÷ .153. plug it into a calculator for the long decimal answer. if multiple choice then round it to the closest answer, most cut of at tenths or hundredths place.
