Hi Daniela!
Ok, so we have an expression to simplify.
let's do some quick basics:
1. What is 2x + 4x? That is, how do I combine terms that both have a single x in them? And how about 4x - 2x instead?
2. What is -1 * -5x? That is, if I have a negative in front of a negative, what does that do?
3. What is 3x * 2x? That is, if I have two terms multiplied together, and each of them has two things multiplied together, then how do I do that? 3x is just 3*x, so what I have is 3 * x * 2 * x. What's that, put together?
4. Next: if I have 2(x + 5)...something added together, like "x + 5," multiplied by something else, like "2," then how do I multiply those two things together? Hint: distribute.
5. Last: if I have a negative in front of parentheses, like -(5 + x), then how does that work, and what do I do with it? Hint: the negative is sorta like a -1.
If you can do all of those, then you have stuff in parentheses that you can deal with (based on #4 and #5, with some help from #2 and #3), and once you have everything laid out, then you can combine terms like in #1.
#6. If you end up with things like x2, plus something with an x, plus a number...then what do you do with that? Can you factor it?
Does this help?
