3x² + 4y^{2 = 9}

 

3x² -  4y^{2 =} 9

Stack the two equations and add:

 

3x² + 4y² = 9

3x² -  4y² = 9

 

6x²          = 18, so x² = 3 and x = ±√3

 

plugging this x value into either of the other equations yields y = 0, so there are two solutions, 

 

(-√3, 0) and (+√3, 0)
