I don't understand the questoon

If this is (n² - n - 12)/(n - 4), then I suppose you need to simplify this expression. Start by factoring the numerator.
 
(n + 3)(n - 4)/(n - 4)
 
= n + 3

One can also note that n≠4, applicable to the simplification because the original expression's domain restriction(s) must be retained.
