how do you solve for x: 3^x+2=7

My teacher wasnt specific on how to solve this. we are on logs if that helps

3^x + 2 = 7

3^x = 5

 

Now take a log of both sides.  Since we have 3^x, the base is 3.  So use log base 3. By definition log₃(3^x) = x:

 

log₃(3^x) = log₃(5)

x = log₃(5)

 

You can use your calculator to find the value of log₃(5)
