I would answer this question like this...
- first, how many questions are they asking? 1
- How many planetariums are there in Canada?
- To figure this first what do we know?
- We know 1/6 of Canada's planetariums are in Halifax.
- We know that there are 2 planetariums in Halifax.
- So the variable we don't know is how many planetariums there are in Canada.
- The 2 planetariums in Halifax is 1/6 of the total planetariums and our equation needs to use this information.
- 2=x/6 which would mean we need to multiply by 6 to get rid of the fraction.
- x/6 * 6 = X.
- Then whatever you do on one side you do on the other 2 * 6 = 12.
- 12 = X
- So what does 12 mean? What was our question?
- How many planetariums are there in Canada? Answer = 12.
- Let's test our answer 2 = 12/6
- How many times does 6 go into 12?? 2
- 2=2 Correct...
- 2 is 1/6 of the total planetariums.
- Is 2 = 1/6 to 12? 2+2+2+2+2+2 = 12 2 is in fact 1/6 of 12.
