Algebra word problem.

Question

A rocket is divided into three sections. The top section is 1/8 the length of the bottom section. The middle section is 1/2 the length of the bottom side. The total length of the rocket is 208ft. Find the length of the top section.

Bottom section length= x

top section lenghth=x/8

middle section length=x/2

 

x+x/8+x/2 = 208

 

8x + x + 4x = 208 * 8

13x =1664

 

x =128 ft
