Given f(x) and g(x) below, find and simplify (f o g)(x) and find its domain.

 f(x) = x^2 - 7

g(x) = sqrt(20 - 5 x)

(f o g)(x) =?

The domain of (f o g)(x) is ?

Andrew M.

Note that the domain of the composite function
must take into account the domain of the
individual functions.
The domain of f(x) = x2-7 is all real numbers
The domain of g(x)=√(20-5x) is x≤4

The composite function has domain (-∞, 4]

There a restriction that 20-5x ≥ 0
since g(x) = √(20-5x) and the discriminant
must be ≥ 0

5x ≤ 20
x ≤ 4

Domain (-∞, 4)

Make that domain..  (-∞, 4] because x can be equal to 4
