Since the line you want to find the equation of is parallel to y=2x + 5, the slope of the line is also 2 ( using y = mx +c). Parallel lines have same slopes.

Now we have to find c or the intercept of this line. We again use

y = mx + c, here y=5, x=2, m=2, c is unknown. 

5 = (2×2) + c

c=1

So the equation of the line is

y=2x + 1
