Vivian is right, Zaire, the equation you provided is not a quadratic since there is no x2 term.  Also, I assume a is a constant?  Did you mean f(x) = 5ax - 17x2 + 14a, or f(x) = 5ax - 172 + 14a.  Also are you solving for the case where f(x) = 0?  Please clarify and we'll help.
