Separate 72 into two parts so that one part is 3 more than twice as much as the first part. Find each part.

Let the first part be x.

 

Second part = 2x + 3

 

Now add both of these together and equate it to 72.

 

 x + (2x + 3) = 72

 

3x + 3 = 72

 

3x = 69

 

x = 23
