Hi Makaila;
(6,4) y = 3x-2
The equation is in slope-intercept format...
y=mx+b
m is the slope.
Slope is 3.
The slope of the line perpendicular to this is such negative inverse...
-1/3
Point-slope formula...
y-y1=m(x-x1)
y-4=(-1/3)(x-6)
y-4=(-1/3)x+2
Please remember that a negative of a negative number is positive, (-1/3)(-6)=+2.
Let's add 4 to both sides...
y-4+4=(-1/3)x+2+4
y=(-1/3)x+6
Let's check our work...
(6,4)
4=[(-1/3)(6)]+6
4=-2+6
4=4
