Suppose that an item costs $48 after a 25% discount. Demonstrate how an equation would be used to find the price of the item before the discount. (Ignore any sales tax.) In your equation, use the variable x, where x represents the pre-discount cost of the item.
In order for your response to be considered fully correct, it must contain at least each of these three items somewhere:
Answer 1. the equation used to find the pre-discount cost of the item;
Answer 2. the solution of the equation ("x = _____"); and
Answer 3. a statement that makes it clear what the pre-discount price of the item was.
