An item costs $9800 and its book value at the end of the third year is $7400. Find the linear function relating book value and age of the item.

Letting B_v = Book Value

Letting t = age of item in years

 

9800- 3d = 7400

add 3d to both sides and subtract 7400 from both sides

3d = 2400

d = 800

 

Annual depreciation is $800 per year
