1/6 = 1/3x^2 + 1/2x
multiply by 6x^2 on both sides of the equation to get rid of fractions and negative exponents
x^2 = 2 + 3x
x^2 - 3x - 2 = 0 (rearranging)
using the quadratic formula; x = [-b +-(b^2 - 4*a*c)^1/2]/2*a
for this equation a = 1; b = -3; and c = -2 (coefficients)
x = [3 +-(9+8)^1/2]/2*1 = (3+-4.12)/2
Answer x = (3 + 4.12)/2 = 3.56, or (3 - 4.12)/2 = -0.56

1/6=(1/3x^2)+(1/2x)
multiply both sides by the LCM of the three denominators which is 6x^2
you get...
x^2=2+3x
x^2-3x-2=0
use the quadratic equation
[3±√(9+8)]/2
[3±√(17)]/2
x=(3+√17)/2 and
x=(3-√17)/2
