Hi Chris,

What I like to do is first rearrange the problem to put all of the same terms next to one another...

3/8x + 3/4 -2/8x - 2/4 changes to 3/8x - 2/8x +3/4 - 2/4...

This now makes it easier to see what we're really adding and subtracting.

 

Answer: 1/8x + 1/4
