Hi Christina;
The Cold War was the conflict between the United States and the USSR, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.  The term Socialist is included in this title.  However, its leader, Russia, characterized itself as Communist.
In the United States, there was an extraordinary phobia against anyone who seemed to be advocating Communist philosophies.  For example, the thought of socialized medicine was not allowed.
