A car costs LE 60 000 to buy and LE 1.5 per kilometer to run. Another car costs LE 45 000 to buy and LE 1.7 per kilometer to run. How many kilometers would you have to drive before the total cost of driving each car was the same?

Let k = # kilometers the costs equations are:

 

Car 1:  60000 + 1.5k

Car 2:  45000 + 1.7k

 

To find out when the total costs are the same set

the equations equal to each other and solve for k

 

60000 + 1.5k = 45000 + 1.7k
