with finding the value of a polynomial

p(x) at x=a

 

Using synthetic division set x=2 ...

The remainder will be the value of

p(2)

 

x⁴ + 10x³ + 8x² + 4x + 10

 

2 |  1    10    8    4    10

   |         2   24  64   136

   ----------------------------

       1  12    32   68   146

 

The remainder theorm says that 

p(2) = 146
