It appears you may be saying that for however much
money Jackson received he kept 8/17 of it and gave
9/17 of it to his daughter. If the daughter receives
$3,060 then how much did Jackson keep?
Jackson:Daughter = 8:9
8:9 = x:3060
3060 = 9(340)
8(340) = 2720
Jackson kept $2,720

There is nothing to answer here because the answer is given. Jason gave his daughter $3,060. I think there is a problem with a verbatim of this problem. A ratio compares some quantity to another quantity, so in this particular sentence, the definition of ratio does not make sense.
