A ball is thrown upwards with an initial velocity of 48 feet/sec from the top of a 160 foot tall building. Assuming that the only force affecting the ball during travel is from gravity, which produces a downward acceleration of 32 feet/sec² ,find the velocity of the ball when it hits the ground.

Initial velocity= U = 48 ft/s Final speed =?

g= 32 ft/s²
H = 160 ft V = final velocity

Using V² =U ² + 2gH = 48x48 + 2x 32 x 160 = 2304 +10240 = 12544

V = (12544) ½ = 112 ft/s = speed when hits the ground
