Solve by completing the square

Solve f(x)=6x^2-49x+8 by completing the square. Give exact answer.

Well I forgot about vertex form but yes how would you solve it with the square root thing if you know what i mean

I know but it doesnt seem right because i did the quadratic formula way and they arent the same...

Somewhere down the road, you must have made a minor error in your algebra.

I stand corrected.  I made a minor error.  In the step where you add the squared value to both sides of equation, I added 2401/144 on the left side.  But the right side, I added 2401/44.  This was the part that messed you up.  Somehow, I missed the 1 key on my keyboard when adding it to the right side.  The denominator was supposed to be 144, and not 44.  But I corrected it here. 
 
 
x2 - (49/6)x + (2401/144) = (2401/144) - (4/3)
 
(x - (49/12))2 = (2401/144) - (4/3)
 
 
Now you can continue from here.
