Since you want to find the maximum and minimum values, set the derivative of the function equal to zero.
12x2 - 176x + 480 = 0
4(3x2 - 44x + 120) = 0
3x2 - 44x + 12 = 0
Use the quadratic formula to find the two x values. Since we have a positive cubic function, the maximum value occurs at the smaller x value, and the minimum value occurs at the larger x value.
