Let an represent the nth term of the sequence 1, -1,2,-2,3,.... Is the sequence arithmetic?
 
Yes or No?
give reason for answer.
 
(a) yes. Because the common difference is -2
(b) no because a3-a2 ≠ a2-a1.
(c) no because a3-a2 ≠ a2-a1.
(d) yes because the common difference is 3.

Hello Samantha,
there is only one correct answer. B and C are saying something totally different. B is saying that the sequence is not arithmetic vs C which says it is arithmetic. They both have different explanations which may according to you mean the same, however the question being is the sequence arithmetic shows that B and C's answer are completly opposite. One says yes and one says no. Please help me find the correct answer. There can only be one answer.
