(2x-3)(3x^2-5x-7)

Question

i can never get the correct way to do this and never get the correct answer please help

Think of the larger polynomial as the GCF.  So we can write this as a sum of products (distributive property).

 

2x(3x² - 5x - 7) - 3(3x² - 5x - 7)

 

 

Now just distribute the terms to get rid of parentheses then combine like terms.

You should have been taught LONG POLYNOMIAL MULTIPLICATION:

 

Write the longer of the two factors on one line of your paper; beneath it, on the next line, write the second factor.

 

Now, using the leftmost term on the second line, multiply it by each of the terms one line 1, putting them on line three.

 

Proceed, then, to the second term on the second line; multiply it by each of the (3) terms on line 1, putting them on line four, LINED UP IN COLUMNS of same degree (If there are more terms still not used on line 2, do the same kind of operation with them, too.)

 

Finally, the answer is obtained by adding up the terms in each column.  This is an essential Algebra skill needed in almost all mathematics, based on the Distributive Property.
