What is the algebraic expression for the number of oranges the adults got?

A group has an equal number of adults and children. When oranges are given to the group, each adult gets two oranges while each child gets one orange and there are 5 oranges left. Write an algebraic expression for the number of oranges given to the adults.

I had to puzzle this for a minute on how you went from
3x+5=y to 2x=2(y-5)/3
 
It would have made quicker sense to me had you solved
for x prior to moving to:  2x = 2(y-5)/3
 
3x+5=y
3x=y-5
x=(y-5)/3
 
2x = 2(y-5)/3
