 Against the wind a airline in south america flew 1008 miles in 4.5 hours.  With a tailwind the wind trip took 4 hours.  What is the speed of the plane? What was the speed of the wind?

1008=(r-w)(4.5)

1008=(r+w)(4)

simplify

224=r-w

252=r+w

add

476=2r

r=476/2

r=238 mph for the plane

252-238=w

w=14 mph for the wind
