Pump up gym has an initial joining fee of 205 and monthly membership dues of 15. Universe gym has an initial joining fee of 125 and monthly membership dues of 19. When will the cost for joining the gyms be the same? If you joined for 2 years which gym you you choose and why

let m = number of months of gym membership

 

then 205 + 15m represents the cost of membership at Pump Up gym

 

        125 + 19m represents the cost of membership at Universe gym

 

When will they be the same cost?

             205 + 15m = 125 + 19m

                        80 = 4m

                        20 = m

     The cost will be the same after 20 months.

 

If you join for two years, for the lowest cost join Pump Up gym.  After 20 months the cost at Pump Up gym is $4 cheaper per month.  Thus after 2 years the total cost at Pump Up gym will be $16 less than the total cost at Universe gym.
