John ran the 100-m dash with a time of 9.81 sec. If this pace could be maintained for an entire 26-mi marathon, what would his time be? (Notice that 1 m ~ 3.281 ft and 1 mi = 5280 ft

You just want to use the conversions listed to figure out what his pace per mile is

100 m x 3.281 ft/m x 1 mi/5280 ft = 0.06214 miles

9.81 seconds / 0.06214 miles = 157.87 seconds per mile

From there then you can convert it over into the entire marathon

157.87 seconds/mile x 26 miles = 4,104.59 seconds, which would be 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 24.59 seconds

26 miles = 26(5280)/3.281 meters = 41,841 meters = 418.41 (100 m);

418.41 (9.81) sec = time to run a marathon at continuous 100m dash pace = 4104.6 sec = 1.14 hours.

 

BTW I believe that the actual marathon is a couple hundred yards more than 26 miles.
