A helicopter used in fighting a forest fire travels at 175 km/h from the fire to a pond and 115 km/h with water from the pond to the fire. if a round trip takes 30 min, how long does it take from the pond to the fire?

Answer is ~18 minutes

 

Distance between pond - fire =d

If t1 minutes are needed from pond to fire, then 30-t1 minutes are needed from fire to pond.

 

Then d= 175*(30-t1)=115*t1

So, 175*30=175t1+115t1

290t1=5250 

t1=18.1 minutes
