b) |3/2x+1| = 4
c) |3-2x| = |5-2x|

if |a| = b  then  a = b  or  a = -b

 

a)  |7-3x| = 3

 

7-3x = 3     or    7-3x = -3

-3x = -4             -3x = -10

x = 4/3               x = 10/3

 

Solution set {4/3, 10/3}

a)  7-3x = ±3  is equivalent; solve this equation twice, once using the positive right side, second time using the negative right side.

b) similarly, discard the absolute value bars and set right side to ±4; solve twice...

 

c) Either 3 - 2x = 5 - 2x   or   3 - 2x = -(5 - 2x) ... solve these two equations.
