1) Julie borrowed $ 3150 from Josh to pay for his housing at TLU. Josh insisted on receiving 4 % simple interest and he wanted Julie to pay him back in six months. How much interest would Julie have to pay Josh?

 

2) A new cell phone's width is .42cm shorter than it is long. The perimeter is 5.96cm. What is the length of the new cell phone.

Simple interest = PRT

 

p = Principal Amount

 

R= rate of interest in decimal

 

T= no.of year

 

Here  p= $3150

         R=4% =0.04

        T= 6 months=1/2 year

 

Simple Interest = PRT =3150 * 0.04 * 1/2 =63

 

So Julie have to pay interest=$63

 

 

 

2)

 

Length = x

width = x-0.42

 

P=2(length +width)

 

5.96 =2(x+x-0.42)

2.98=x + x -0.42

 

2.98 =2x -0.42

 

3.4 =2x

 

1.7 =x

 

So length of new cell phone is 1.7 cm
