Note: estimates don't have to be easier than exact answers.  For example, what is the estimated value of 2+2+2 ?

Now, estimating the value of 1.9 + 2.1 + 2.1 is slightly easier than finding the exact answer.  And estimating 2.01232345 +1.980045 + 1.999999 makes estimating important.
