how do I answer this

A cream is sold in a 34?-gram
container. The average amount of cream used per application is 3 2/5
grams. How many applications can be made with the? container?

We want to know how many 3 2/5 gram applications we can divide 34 grams into
 
This is a division problem
 
34/(3 2/5) = 34/3.4 = 10 applications

Note that 34/3.4 is quick.
 
This is slower:
    34 / (3 2/5)
    34 / (17/5)
    34 * (5/17)      could cancel -- 17 goes into 34, 2 times
        10
