could someone help me with this math problem?

Find the equation of the line through (3,-1) with a slope of 2
 
so i come up -1=3(2)+b
 
but that's all i got could someone help me understand please

okay how does it become -7??
 
like if you add -1 to 6 it just becomes 7. but why is it negative 7?

Remember that you want b by itself, so you subract 6 from both sides and get -7 = b, or b = -7.
