y = 4x + 2

y = 4x - 6     same slope, different intercept, parallel line

 

perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals,

m₁ = -1/m₂

y = 4x + 2

y = -x/4 + 2  perpendicular line

 

x-intercept (4, 0), y-intercept (-2, 0), slope is 2/4, or 1/2

slope of perpendicular line is -2/1, or -2
