 A student dance committee is to be formed by choosing five students from four boys and three girls. Find the probability that the five member committee consists of exactly 2 girls.

there are 3C2 ways to choose exactly 2 girls; this = 3.

there are 4C3 ways to choose exactly 3 boys, after choosing the two girl members; this = 4. 

 

There are 3(4) = 12 ways to choose the above-described dance committee.

 

The desired probability is 12 ÷ 7C5, i.e. 12/21 = 4/7  ⇔ ERROR corrected
