Carbonyl compounds such as an Aldehyde or a ketone react with hydroxylamine (NH2OH) to form an oxime.
For each carbonyl group one oxime is produced. C8H80 has one carbonyl group and is expected to form one oxime. Now we need to find out how many carbonyl compounds are possible with C8H80. Five different compounds can be represented by C8H80 : Acetophenone, 2-Methylbenzaldehyde, 3-Methylbenzaldehyde, 4-Methylbenzaldehyde, and Phenylacetaldehyde. Each of the oximes are formed as two geometric isomers to form 10 oximes.
