y = (1/6) x - 1/2 is in the form
y = m x + b, which is called the Slope-Intercept Form because
m = slope and b = y-intercept.
In this case, m = 1/6 and b = - 1/2.
P.S.: An intercept is where a graph intersects, crosses, the x-axis or y-axis. So there are x-intercepts and y-intercepts. All x-intercept points have a zero y-value and all y-intercept points have a zero x-value.
For y = m x + b:
(0,b): b = m*0 + b
(a,0): 0 = m*a + b
-b = m*a
-b/m = a

"what is the slope?", "m = slope", "m = 1/6".
