Start by combining like terms. Subtract 3/x from both sides, and add 4 to both sides:
3/x + 4 = 5/x - 4
-3/x -3/x
----------------------
4 = 2/x - 4
+4 +4
-----------------
8 = 2/x
Multiply both sides by x:
(8)*x = (2/x)*x
8x = 2
Divide both sides by 8:
(8x)/8 = 2/8
x = 1/4.
Check by substituting x=1/4 back into the original equation:
3/(1/4) + 4 = 5/(1/4) - 4
3*4 + 4 = 5*4 - 4
12 + 4 = 20 - 4
16 = 16.
