18 feet/12 inches=(18*12)/12=216/12=18 inches/1 inch or 1 inch on the scale drawing represents
18 inches or 1 1/2 ft in the room (or simply(18*12)/12=18/1)

WIDTH...(12-feet)/(8-inches)
 
Let's note a common issue between the two equations...
(12)(1.5)=18
(8)(1.5)=12
 
Therefore...
 
LENGTH...(1.5-feet)/(1-inch)
WIDTH...(1.5-feet)/(1-inch)
 
The scale of the drawing is 1.5-feet is 1-inch.
