Let T = cost of ticket
After paying for the tickets, Mr. Herman had 125-T dollars
and Mr Chandra had 80-T. The equation is:
125-T = 6(80-T) clear the parenthesis, multiply thru by 6
125-T = 6(80) + 6(-T)
125-T = 480-6T add 6T to both sides of the equation
125-T+ 6T = 480-6T+6T
125+5T = 480 subtract 125 from both sides
125+5T-125 = 480-125
5T = 355 divide both sides by 5
5T/5 = 355/5
T = 71
The concert ticket cost $71
Subtract that from the $80 Mr Chandra started with to find out
how much money he had left.
80-71 = 9
Mr. Chandra had $9 left.

Thisceas ourv4th graders hw last night. Many of kids did it this way, and teachers told them it was ok but not the way they should have done it. They showed them another way.

There are many ways to work some problems. I, personally, while I have a bachelor's degree
in mathematics, do not actually work in the field. I do this site to both help others and to
maintain a degree of personal efficiency. I would like to see the teacher's method.
