We have a CDF

F(y) = {Y^4   if  0<= y <= 1

          { 1   if  y>1

 

The Z transformation is:

Z = 3Y^2 + 2,2 ≤ z ≤ 5

 

My question is: I dont understand why Z = 3Y^2  + 2?

Are you trying to "standardize" the variable y or are you just defining a new variable z based on y?
