Caleb, taking the square root of a number is the same thing as raising the number to the 1/2 power.
Now, let's say I had (41/2)3. If you remember, when you raise a power to a power, your multiply the powers, so I'd have 43/2. This would be the same thing as raising the square root of 4 to the 3rd power. The square root of 4 is 2, and 23 = 8.
Remember also that the square root of a times the square root of b equals the square root of ab.
