Rewrite using rational exponents: sqrt((3xy)^4)
 

A:(3xy)^(1/2)

B: (xy)^(3/4)

C: 3(x^2)(y^2)

D: 9(x^2)(y^2)

E: 81(x^2)(y^2)

Caleb, taking the square root of a number is the same thing as raising the number to the 1/2 power.

 

Now, let's say I had (4^1/2)³. If you remember, when you raise a power to a power, your multiply the powers, so I'd have 4^3/2.  This would be the same thing as raising the square root of 4 to the 3rd power. The square root of 4 is 2, and 2³ = 8.

 

Remember also that the square root of a times the square root of b equals the square root of ab.
