i think its x= {-31,3} but I'm not sure.

Solve for the variable and express the answer in set notation: |4x+5|=26-3x

 

for absolute value you need to have two equations:  one for the positive and one for the negative

 

4x+5=26-3x

7x+5=26

7x=21

x=3

 

-(4x+5)=26-3x

-4x-5=26-3x

-5=26+x

-31=x

 

Check:

|4x+5|=26-3x

|4(-31)+5|=26-3(-31)

|-124+5|=26+93

|-119|=119

119=119

 

You can check x=3

 

ANSWER:  {-31, 3}

All you have to do is CHECK YOUR ANSWERS; substitute -31 in and see if left side = right side.  Then do same for 3.
