i need help understanding rational expressions

Reduce the rational expression to lowest terms. If it is already in lowest terms, enter the expression in the answer box. Also, specify any restrictions on the variable.

3y2−27/(3)

Rational expression in lowest terms:
Variable restrictions for the original expression: y≠

im so confused

Andrew M.

Is this grouped like:
(3y2 - 27)/3  ??

If so then you factor a 3 out of each
term in the numerator giving:

3(y2 -9)/3 = y2-9 = (y-3)(y+3)
No restrictions on the variable
****************************
If this is, as posted, 3y2 - 27/3 then you have
3y2 - 27/3 = 3y2 - 9 = 3(y2-3)
No restrictions on the variable
