How to write an equation in slope intercept form?

Slope intercept form is y = mx + b; you will just literally copy that form to get the slope. What is the whole question? Because when you're given a point such as (-4,-2), they are usually asking the equation of the line that contains that point and parallel/perpendicular to the given equation.
