a²+5a-36=0

  Hi Jay...Look at the 36 and just factor

 

  1x36=36

 

    6x6=36

 

     9x4=36

 

 

      Look at the 9 and 4

                                                    a^2  +5a  -36    ---->just factor

 

 

                                                      (a-9)   (a+4)

 

 

                                                         a=9   or a= -4
