Remember that x^-5 = 1/x⁵.  Hence:

 

     x^-5/x = 1/x⁵*x = 1/x⁵⁺¹ = 1/x⁶

 

Another way to do it is to use the rule for dividing exponents that have the same base:

 

     x^a/x^b = x^a-b

 

Remembering that x = x¹:

 

     x^-5/x¹ = x^-5-1 = x^-6 = 1/x⁶
